It's been reported for weeks that there's plenty of interest league wide for the 27-year old that scored 40 goals a season ago, and now, Eklund of Hockey Buzz has linked him to two teams.
Both the Wild and Islanders would have to move some pieces around if they were to land the young star, but given the surplus the Maple Leafs have up front and the cap crunch they are facing, perhaps moving him is now the best decision for the franchise.
Despite the talent pool being deeper than ever in the NHL, both of these teams appear to be pushing for the playoffs in 2023-24, and as such, won't want to give up many future assets, but here is what a deal could look like for the Wild.
On the surface, this one may seem like an odd one, but it would allow the Wild to land a future star on the wing, a position they need plenty of help in, while the Maple Leafs would land a player who is locked in until 2028-29 at a palatable $5.25 million cap hit.
As for the Islanders, it appears they are looking to pair Nylander with Matt Barzal to create a quick, talented top line, and in this deal, they'd give up plenty of depth to land the star winger.
When Eklund first reported the interest here, the deal revolved around veteran Jean-Gabriel Pageau, but that's not enough, so the Islanders throw in talented young defenseman Noah Dobson and a future pick to make this deal work, as it gives the Leafs more depth and a future asset to potentially flip in another deal.
