The Reason Brendan Shanahan Believes in the Core Four Revealed
Brendan Shanahan won three Stanley Cups as a player and aspires to win more in management. Despite Shanahan's success with three cups, it took him some time to achieve them.
NHL insider Chris Johnston highlighted that during Shanahan's first nine seasons in the NHL, he had only won three total playoff series.
Enter Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander. All of them have played eight or fewer seasons in the NHL, and each has only one playoff series win under his belt.
This was similar to Shanahan's first nine seasons without a cup win. Because Detroit didn't dismantle their core of Yzerman, Lindstrom, and Shanahan, they were eventually rewarded with three cups.
Having personally witnessed the benefits of sticking with the talent you have and maintaining the core team, Shanahan has applied this experience towards keeping the "Core Four" together.
