A surprise GM exit just put Brad Treliving on the hot seat

The Nashville Predators announced GM Barry Trotz would be stepping down, and it puts a new perspective on Brad Treliving's future as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
With the Maple Leafs struggling heavily this season, a lot of discussion has come regarding the future of Brad Treliving in Toronto as he's taken a perennial playoff contender to the basement of the division.
However, he might be under more pressure thanks to one surprise move on Monday:
According to Elliotte Friedman, Nashville Predators GM Barry Trotz is going to be stepping down from his position with an announcement expected later today.
Pierre LeBrun later confirmed that the Preds will have a press conference at 12PM CT/1PM ET to announce the decision:
Friedman did note as well that Trotz was still going to remain on the job until a successor is found, however he will likely play a huge role in finding a replacement sooner than later.
The Predators have struggled since splurging on a load of free agents last season, and while they were able to pul themselves together recently, the team wants to make sure they have all their bases covered regardless.
Trotz, the former Predators coach, is someone know is near and dear to the fans as he was named the inaugural head coach and spent 15 years behind the bench before moving to Washington.
Brad Treliving could learn a thing or two from Barry Trotz
It puts a lot of perspective on Treliving's job now because it feels like he has very limited attempts left to make real changes and Trotz's awareness to step aside gives him a way to still have a voice but also give the team the different leader they need.
He's going to be under a microscope even more than he already is, and every move he does or doesn't make is going to be critiqued, analyzed and broken down so, if he's starting to feel the heat he may want out.
This is the time for Treliving to put his best foot forward and do what he can to help the team. Sell high on assets, stop pretending the team is playoff ready, and maybe take more time on improving the team and not trying to discredit Toronto media.
If he can't do that? Then he needs to follow in Trotz's footsteps and move along.
