Big concerns emerge for Max Domi's contract extension in Toronto
Max Domi has said that he is unsure about his future with the Leafs, something he admitted while attending a walk for juvenile diabetes research.
Domi is a type 1 diabetic himself, and has long been attached to the cause through various charity and community outreach events. While at the event, Domi gave some insight into his future in the NHL, as well as his opinion about the Leafs new head coach, Craig Berube.
Max Domi inspires young fans participating in this morning's Walk for Juvenile Diabetes Research at Seton Park. Max has played with Type 1 his entire career. Told us he'd be pumped to be on a Craig Berube-coached team - they've spoken already - but that depends on contract talks.
Domi was highly complimentary of Berube, emphasizing how dedicated the coach is to his job. After all, it takes a lot of commitment to be an NHL head coach and takes even more to be a good coach. On the one hand, this praise of Berube could be seen as an indication that he expects to stay in Toronto, as he will be working with him. However, the last part of his statement gave some fans cause for concern.
"All the guys in the locker room, the staff, they're going to benefit from having him around every single day. There's a presence around him, he means business. Whether I'm here or not, he's exactly what this team needs to take the next step. I know my agent has been talking to Treliving, though I have to keep that discussion in-house," Domi said. "Whatever happens will happen, but I've still enjoyed every second as a Leaf. I'd love to come back, it's a special organization, a special group of guys."

Domi was very good for the Maple Leafs this season, especially in the second half and into the playoffs. He recorded 9 goals and 47 points in 80 regular season games, following it up with four points in the playoffs, tied for the team lead. He also added character and grit to their forward core, which became more and more evident as the year went along. He is a great fit in Toronto, so hopefully the team can find a way to make it work.
