Despite a fantastic regular season that once again had fans hoping for a deep Stanley Cup run, the Toronto Maple Leafs fell short, with the front office once again having more questions than answers.
Now, with free agency and the draft under two weeks away, we know a little more about their game plan to add to this insanely talented roster.
According to The Fourth Period, one of Toronto's free agency plans is nice and simple, and it's the same one that Brad Treliving followed in Calgary; add big bodies on the blue line. This also goes hand in hand with one of Treliving's former players, as the team have long had reported interest in unrestricted free agent Nikita Zadorov.
Along with Zadorov, the team could look to add another former Flame in Chris Tanev, while Erik Gudbranson, Colton Parayko, Brady Skjei and others could all be available.
Unfortunately for Toronto, they won't be able to land all of their targeted defenseman, but if they can make a big addition or two alongside Morgan Rielly, Simon Benoit and their intriguing blue line, they may have the pieces to finally make a run under new Head Coach Craig Berube.
