The Blackhawks do not figure to be a playoff team next season after finishing 31st this year, but they have made some significant improvements in free agency today. Their latest move came as they signed TJ Brodie to a two-year deal.
Brodie will come with a 3.75 million dollar cap hit. That may seem like a lot, but the Blackhawks essentially have no cap concerns considering the fact that they will not be competitive for a playoff spot for several years.
Brodie got into 78 games with the Leafs last season, scoring 1 goal and 26 points in the process. However, it was clear that he has taken a step back due to his age. the 34-year-old will likely continue to decline, but if the Blackhawks use him in a more limited role, he can still be an effective player.
