The Toronto Maple Leafs are active ahead of the NHL's March 7th Trade Deadline, looking at multiple forwards who could help the team win and be active down the stretch.
Now, it seems one player potentially on the Toronto Maple Leafs radar is a bit of an uncertainty due to his injury status, according to a new report.
Per NHL Insider Chris Johnston, Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic will be out "week-to-week" with a lower-body injury suffered in the team's game Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Despite this, Johnston said the injury doesn't change any possibility that Frederic could still see him on the move at the trade deadline, even if he is still injured.
Frederic exited in the first period against Toronto after colliding in a puck battles with defenseman Jake McCabe.
Frederic is not currently at the Bruins morning skate, and is expected to miss tonight's game against the New York Islanders.
With Frederic still available for trade despite a setback, he could still find himself an option for the Toronto Maple Leafs who are still looking for forward help for a strong playoff push.
The Toronto Maple Leafs still have a shot at Trent Frederic, even if it was the team that caused his most recent injury.
Although division rivals, Toronto are a possible team in on Frederic, with him being a potential low-cost option for the Leafs.
Toronto should be a little bit cautious however, as the team has already dealt with several injuries this season and adding a player with the potential to re-aggravate this injury in the future is a tad concerning.
Frederic is in the final year of a two-year contract which makes him $2.3M this season and is going to be an unrestricted free agent at season's end.
Frederic, 27, has eight goals and 15 points in 57 games this season for the Boston Bruins.
Trent Frederic appears still for sale even if he will be out for an extended period of time, and the Toronto Maple Leafs could be a team of interest if they are desperate enough for a bottom-six add if they are willing to wait for the potential payoff.
