Auston Matthews absence from the Maple Leafs lineup has been a big talking point, and now an Insider has revealed more information on his condition.

The Maple Leafs season is once again on the line on Thursday as the team have home ice advantage against the Boston Bruins, but they'll once again do so without their biggest star. After missing the ending of game four and game five due to illness, Auston Matthews is once again expected to miss this one, and while the illness is a major part of it, TSN's Chris Johnston has revealed something bigger is going on.

"What is known is that the 26-year-old played through illness in Games 3 and 4 of the series before suffering an injury on an innocuous hit while playing sick, according to the sources. Team doctors removed Matthews from the lineup during the second intermission of Game 4 and he's been unable to participate in a full team skate since."

Other reports have stated that Matthews took a hit in the regular season, with the conditions continuing to get worse, and one Maple Leafs fan has pointed out a specific play that matches that timeline.

Ultimately, we may never know exactly when it occurred, but there has to be much more than an illness happening here, and with Johnston revealing that he's been unable to participate in practice, it's not looking good for No. 34.
