Not known for having a knack for talking a lot, Craig Berube often keeps interviews short and sweet, giving the media only the bones and holding his cards close to his chest.
For someone so animated behind the bench, the typically stoic Berube tends to keep it at a minimum. Even more so given that he's had to deal with some pretty brutal officiating over the last couple of games.
First off, there was Ryan Reaves' hit on Darnell Nurse which led to a five-game suspension.
Then Connor McDavid avoided four penalties including one for shooting John Tavares' stick which led to the tying goal.
Now on Wednesday, he had to deal with Zach Whitecloud taking out his star power forward.
It seems like Berube is getting fed up with the disrespect that his team that his team is getting from the NHL, and tried to do his best not to disparage the league:
I'm sure Berube had some comments off the record, and knowing how badly the league tends to lean towards an anti-Leafs bias, he has a reason to be upset.
Thankfully, Knies is going to be alright and was just taken out as a precautionary measure:
Well, that's a huge relief to Berube and Maple Leafs fans as they deal with a litany of injuries already to Auston Matthews, Max Pacioretty, and Max Domi among others.
It doesn't excuse the fact that Whitecloud never got a penalty and in fact, Toronto needed to kill off a double minor to Simon Benoit; who came to Knies' defense after the hit. The league needs to do better.
It didn't deter the Maple Leafs though, as they persevered as they have through these injuries and came out with a 3-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.
Backed by a stud performance from Joseph Woll, Fraser Minten's first career NHL goal, as well as William Nylander's team-leading 15th goal, the Maple Leafs came out on top.
It's also a huge positive that Toronto doesn't play until Sunday against Utah, giving Knies and the rest of the ailing players enough time to recover before they head back on the ice.
Let's just hope that on Sunday's game, there are no shenanigans, or you might see Berube flip his lid, and lose some money.
