While the saga surrounding Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs is far from over, it appears that things are a little more clear now than they were last week.

As soon as game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals was over, the Mitch Marner saga really took off. Trade rumors began flying around, and it really appeared that the Leafs had no intention of signing Marner long-term, as it has not worked out in recent years with the "core 4".

Barry Trotz tells @JaredStillman
there's truth to the rumors of Preds being in on some big names on trade market.

He mentions a "prominent player in Toronto" as "people trying to connect dots" but also lists reasons why someone like Mitch Marner would want to come to NSH.

Some experts still believe the Leafs will trade Marner, however, it appears that the majority of them are now leaning towards Marner inking a long-term deal with the team. It was known that Marner's agent wasn't a big fan of former Leafs GM Kyle Dubas, and is hoping that the process will be a lot smoother with Brad Treliving now at the helm.

🗣️ Paul Bissonnette via Spittin' Chiclets:

«I'm hearing rumblings they're in the process of negotiating a contract extension with Mitch Marner.»

Despite this situation being far from over, it appears the organization now wants to keep Marner long-term. Fans sure hope the "core 4" is going to turn things around next season, as they are growing very tired of losing.
