Elliotte Friedman unveils when Mitch Marner will make his decision
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman provided us with another update on the Mitch Marner trade situation yesterday on 32 thoughts.
Marner has been heavily involved in trade rumors more or less since the moment the Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs. Almost everyone around the hockey world is anticipating a change for the Leafs. That being said, recent rumors are starting to trend the other direction, implying there is a real chance the Leafs go into next season with the core-four intact. Elliotte Friedman believes both the team and Marner are willing to at least begin negotiations for a contract extension before we see trade talk pick up again.
"I don't think anything is going to happen until the Leafs and [Marner] sit down and talk and understand what the contract asks and proposals are going to be. Then we'll see where we really are.
If the Marner camp thinks the Leafs come with something outrageous or the Leafs think the Marner camp comes with something outrageous, then all bets are off."
it is certainly reasonable that the Leafs would want to think things over very carefully before they make a move. At the same time though, will this fanbase be able to stomach another season of more or less the same exact on-ice product?
The Leafs don't seem interested in trading Mitch Marner at the moment. 👀
Adding to Friedman's report is the fact that Marner is reportedly not preparing to be traded. Fellow insider Pierre LeBrun reported yesterday that Marner's camp is not preparing for a move at this time and he does have a full no-move clause so Marner really holds all the cards here.
Mitch Marner's agent is 𝐍𝐎𝐓 currently preparing a list of teams for a potential trade, as Marner holds a full no-move clause. Speculation about a Marner trade may intensify closer to the NHL Draft in late June. [via: @PierreVLeBrun]

It is certainly shaping up to be a very interesting and possibly contentious offseason for the Maple Leafs. Be sure to stay tuned so you don't miss any of the drama or excitement of it all.
