Former Leafs winger Tyler Bertuzzi has been accused of tampering
Tyler Bertuzzi is being accused of tampering due to a phone call he had with Nick Foligno of the Blackhawks the day before free agency.
Following his time with the Leafs, Tyler Bertuzzi decided to leave the team and sign elsewhere this offseason. The catch, however, is that Chicago was nowhere near Bertuzzi's list of teams he was interested in playing for, that is until he had a phone conversation with Nick Foligno.
Tyler Bertuzzi says the Blackhawks weren't on his radar until Nick Foligno called the day before free agency and let him know they were interested. Foligno basically an extension of the front office at this point.
The league claims to be completely against tampering, which is what many have began to accuse Bertuzzi and Foligno to have done. However, it does not seem that commissioner Gary Bettman is prepared to take any action at this point.
How is @capfriendly reporting Sam Carrick and Tyler Bertuzzi have already signed with new teams? Doesn't that constitute tampering? To those Leafs fans who are wondering why Bertuzzi didn't resign with Toronto, they need to look no further than Nick Foligno. Whether the league will ever tighten their rules around tampering remains to be seen, as clearly this is not the first time fans around the league have seen this.
