According to insider Pierre LeBrun, Gilman is leaving the club, a move made by "mutual decision", with Laurence Gilman expected to gain interest from teams as a free agent for the executive with a lengthy resume.
Laurence Gilman, 59, has been with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization since 2018, when he was named the Leafs Assistant GM, as well as General Manager of the AHL Toronto Marlies, replacing incoming Leafs GM Kyle Dubas.
Prior, Laurence Gilman had spent nine years in Phoenix with the Coyotes in various management roles between 1998-2007, then going on to spend seven seasons in Vancouver with the Canucks as an Assistant GM and Senior VP of Hockey Operations between 2008-2015.
Prior to joining Toronto, Laurence Gilman had worked in the NHL, helping to create the rules for the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.
Laurence Gilman was linked to General Manager roles in the past, having been a candidate for the Vanacouver Canucks vacant position in 2021 after the firing of Jim Benning. The role was later filled in the interim by Jim Rutherford, and permanently by Patrik Allvin.
