This off-season, the Toronto Maple Leafs bolstered their goaltending stocks when they went all in on Joseph Woll as their starter, inking backup Anthony Stolarz to be a veteran presence behind him. Things aren't quite working out as well for a division rival however, as the Boston Bruins traded away Linus Ullmark, with perceived starter Jeremy Swayman not yet signed to a new deal, giving the front office a major headache.
With the season right around the corner, the Bruins are currently slated to begin the season with Joonas Korpisalo as their No. 1, and with little depth behind him, that's certainly not ideal for a potential Stanley Cup contender. Now, the team have made an official move, landing former Maple Leafs goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo, a 30-year old with just two games of NHL experience under his belt.
Last season, Kaskisuo played with the Laval Rockets, the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, yet another rival of both these teams, tallying a .909 save percentage and a 2.79 GAA through 13 games played. This move adds Kaskisuo to a group that includes Korpisalo, Michael DiPietro and Brandon Bussi, and given the state of the rest of their roster, this isn't what any Bruins fan wants to see in net.
Kaskisuo played just one game for the Maple Leafs back in 2019/20, but played in parts of five seasons for the AHL's Toronto Marlies, so while it's great to see another former Leaf get an opportunity, it's safe to say he'll likely be nothing more than a depth move for Boston as they look to sort out the mess that has become the Jeremy Swayman contract situation.
