Fraser Minten's 2024 started off rough after suffering an ankle injury before the preseason and not getting into any game action until November. Playing very well in his short time with the Marlies, he was called up because of injuries and has made the most of it so far and impressing his head coach quite a bit.
Speaking about Minten, the Maple Leafs bench boss was nothing but complimentary to the rookie, and explained how he's already matured so much even on a short-term basis:
It's not only his mannerisms and maturity that have impressed his head coach, as Minten has four points in six games with Toronto so far, and his gritty and passionate play on Wednesday led the rookie to be paired with some elite company in John Tavares and William Nylander.
It's a big step forward for Minten to not only earn Berube's admiration, but the trust to go out there and lead alongside two of Toronto's most beloved players. He also was a lightning bolt against Nashville, recording five shots and seven hits; a hybrid of skill and toughness that Berube no doubt enjoys.
Drafted 38th overall by the Maple Leafs in 2022, Minten made the team out of camp in his first season but only stayed around four games before being demoted. This time around, he's making sure to do whatever he can to stick around and so far it seems to be working.
With Toronto's injury situation starting to figure itself out, it'll be tough to see anyone take Minten's spot especially how he's grown not only on the ice, but off it too. He's got the approval and trust of his head coach, management is in love with his potential, and he's a fantastic hockey player.
The future is bright for Fraser Minten if he continues the way he's been playing and hopefully he can help the Maple Leafs shine for years to come.
