It's always sad to hear about a loss in the hockey world. Whether it was the tragic passings of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau in August, to NHL Legend AL MacNeil, life is never the same whether on or off the ice.
But it's even more unfortunate when a player barely even gets the chance to have a fulfilling life, let alone career.
That was the tragedy that befell 16-year old William Neeb, as dual athlete passed away after a car accident in mid-December.
Neeb, a hockey player and golfer for New Milford High School in Connecticut succumbed to his injuries a post from the Superintendent Of New Milford Public Schools Janet P. Parlato on Facebook.
As heartbreaking as it was, the community banded together stronger than ever as hundreds flocked to Admiral Stockdale Arena to pay homage and respect to the life and family of Neeb.
During the memorial service, the scoreboard was lit up with #12, Neeb's jersey number; a jersey they proudly had on display during the ceremony.
Afterward, seven of Neeb's teammates lined up in front of his jersey and performed a ceremonial faceoff in tribute.
They also called for 12 minutes of silence shortly after the service began.
Neeb was not only an outstanding hockey player, having 25 points in 22 games for New Milford, but was an All-State golfer as well as a part of the Athletic Council.
His coaches also remembered him for his talent and friendliness as both Ike Corriveau and Trent Thomas commented on his ability:
Known for his kindness towards his peers, work ethic, athletic talent and making a positive impact on New Milford athletics, it's a true shame that Neeb's life was taken so soon.
Not only the hockey world, but the whole world has suffered due to the loss of William Neeb.
We here at Hockey Patrol would like to send out well wishes to the family and friends of William Neeb who are still gripping with this senseless tragedy.
