Jeff Marek reveals three surprising names on the table for the Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have already made one big change this summer, and now it appears there's going to be a shakeup on the ice too.
After another disappointing end to a promising season, Maple Leafs fans are demanding change, and with Sheldon Keefe officially fired on Thursday, the front office see it too. Now, Jeff Marek has officially revealed that there are three Leafs players potentially on the move this off-season too;
According to Marek, Marner, Tavares and Rielly are «on the table» while Matthews and Nylander are untouchable.
All of these names are incredibly talented, but unfortunately the way the roster is constructed right now, they just aren't good enough to win a Stanley Cup as a group. It's unclear though whether any of them have or will request a trade, as no-movement clause's could make a potential deal difficult, but it certainly makes sense that Toronto could look to move them.
When asked about it, Brendan Shanahan gave a very political answer, but revealed everything is on the table this summer;
Brendan Shanahan asked specifically about John Tavares and Mitch Marner's situation, doesn't answer directly saying it'd be premature but also adding that everything is on the table. So Auston Matthews and William Nylander are locks moving forward, but beyond that, this Maple Leafs team could look incredibly different come opening night of the 2024-25 season.
