Less than two minutes into the first rookie matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens, Arber Xhekaj's brother, Florian, dropped the gloves against Leafs prospect Chas Sharpe after the whistle.
It all started in a small scrum near Dennis Hildeby's net, and tensions boiled over between Xhekaj and Sharpe.
Check out the fight in the videos below:
Players often use rookie games to show what they can bring to the table. Xhekaj obviously brings an interesting combination of skills and physicality, much like his brother.
Xhekaj, 6'4", went after Sharpe, 6'3", and sent him to the floor with a few punches.
Both players are expected to play in the AHL next season. Xhekaj signed his entry-level contract back in April, whereas Sharpe signed a two-year AHL contract. There is a possibility that Habs fans will get to see Xhekaj in the NHL this season if everything goes well with the Laval Rocket in the AHL.
In a few years, with Arber on the blue line and Florian in the Habs' bottom-six, the Habs could be one of the scariest teams to play against in the NHL.
As for Sharpe, he'll need to show the Leafs organization that he deserves a spot in the next two years before the end of his AHL contract.
