Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs organization finally confirmed that they've reached an agreement with former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty.
The 36-year-old forward signed a professional tryout contract and will attend the Maple Leafs' training camp in Toronto next week.
On X, the Maple Leafs confirmed the news with the following post:
His agent, the famous Allan Walsh, added interesting details in another post, confirming that both sides expect a standard player contract to be signed before the Leafs' first game of the season, on October 9th, in Montreal, against the Canadiens, his former team.
Insider Chris Johnston confirmed that statement:
The PTO is likely in place as a good faith agreement while Leafs' general manager Brad Treliving makes the necessary moves to create enough cap space. It'll be interesting to see what he decides to do. With Nick Robertson signing a contract, a trade involving him is likely.
Unless Treliving decides to make a much bigger move (possibly including Mitch Marner), there aren't many options to free up the money.
With training camp starting next week, we could see the Leafs make another move soon to have enough money to sign Pacioretty.
However, fans are even more eager to see what the player will bring on the ice. It is hoped that he'll finally bring offensive depth to the Leafs' third line, alongside Max Domi.
