Though it was a slim possibility to make the team out of training camp, Easton Cowan will no doubt make an impact when he's eventually called up. Since being sent back to the London Knights he has tore up the league much like last season.
He recently broke an unofficial record for the longest point streak in OHL history, however the league will not acknowledge the incredible accomplishment because the streak has taken place over two different seasons.
It's an extraordinary feat for Cowan and shows just how special of a talent he is, and how exciting the future will be with Cowan alongside potential superstars like Fraser Minten and Matthew Knies.
But for now, fans of both London and Toronto will be holding their breath as Cowan found himself at the receiving end of a brutal hit from Oshawa defenseman Zack Sandhu after trying to gather a pass.
Both players were clearly affected by the collision, with Sandhu falling to the ice and Cowan looking like he had just been hit by a truck.
The injury forced Cowan to leave the game and not return; a worrying sign for this season.
It's a very unfortunate bit of timing for this to happen to Cowan, as he was only a week out from Team Canada's World Juniors camp, and was primed to have a very important role as a key offensive stud for the Canadian side.
The Maple Leafs' 28th overall pick in 2023 has been on fire this season, with 28 points in 20 games and has an astounding 38 goals and 56 assists over his historic run. For his career in London, he has registered so far a total of 70 goals and 109 assists in 149 games.
There is no official word on the status of Cowan as of yet, and all fans can hope for is that the injury was nothing too serious.
It would be a big blow to not only the London Knights' season, but for Team Canada as they are only a few weeks out from trying to improve on their fifth-place finish from 2024.
