The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray revealed important details about his health during a recent podcast interview.

Murray, 30, signed a one-year, $875k deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs back in July after spending nearly all of the 2023-24 season recovering from hip surgery that limited him to three games with the Marlies in the AHL.

In an interview on Slangin' the Bizkit Podcast, he stated that he feels much better than he used to. He shared details about how he's been dealing with hip pain for many years and how it has affected the rest of his body.

In his own words:

"My hips haven't felt this good in a long time.

I've dealt with hip pain going back as far as Wilkes-Barre when I was like 20 or 21. It just got to a point where it was starting to mess up everything else. I was starting to get low back issues, starting to pull my groin a lot, and starting to have a lot of ankle problems.

It just got to a point where you try to get to the root of the problem, which in goaltending, for the most part, tends to be the hips. That's kind of what steers the ship, I would say. It's the most in-demand part of the body when playing in goal. I just figured it was time to get those fixed up and get a nice little reset."

Later, he talked about his goals for the next season: staying healthy and getting the job done:

"This year is just about proving that I can stay healthy and that I got a nice little reset with the surgery, so proving that I can stay healthy and get the job done."

With the Maple Leafs making many changes during the summer, including the addition of goalie Anthony Stolarz, it'll be interesting to see what kind of role Murray will have with the team.

Joseph Woll should get an important part of the workload, likely leaving Stolarz and Murray to compete for the number two role.

With his vast NHL experience, Murray could have an edge, but we'll have to wait until training camp to see what Brad Treliving, Craig Berube, and the rest of the Maple Leafs coaching staff decide to do.
