The Toronto Maple Leafs are officially activating forward Calle Jarnkrok from Injured Reserve and he's set to make his season debut tonight against the Sharks.

For the 1st time this year, the Toronto Maple Leafs will have a valuable depth forward on the ice with them: Calle Jarnkrok.

Jarnkrok, who has missed the entire year up to this point, will be back in the Maple Leafs' lineup for tonight's game against the San Jose Sharks at Scotiabank Arena (7:30 PM, Sportsnet).

He'll play on a line with David Kampf and Connor Dewar as he gets accustomed back to playing at the NHL level, and will provide Toronto with some extra defense and net protection.

In a corresponding move, the Maple Leafs have moved forward Alex Steeves to the American Hockey League in order to accommodate Jarnkrok's return.

Earlier this week, Jarnkrok delivered the good news that he was feeling great and looking forward to getting back into the lineup.

I feel great out there. I'm just waiting for the last medical clearance here. I don't know if it will be tomorrow or the next day or the day after that, but I'm really close.

According to head coach Craig Berube, the only lineup change for tonight's game against the Sharks is Jarnkrok's insertion into the lineup while enforcer Ryan Reaves will be coming out.

Berube is excited to have him in the lineup too, as he appreciates the style of game that Jarnkrok brings to the table:

He's played a long time in the league. He knows how to play. Like, he's practised really well. He looks good. I expect him to have good energy out there. He's a smart player.

Reaves hasn't done too much this season for the Maple Leafs, having only two points in 35 games, and managing to have only one fight; the main reason he was signed to the club in the first place.

Jarnkrok was limited to 52 games last year, scoring 21 points (10G, 11A).

He last played on May 4 in Game 7 of the opening round of the playoffs against the divisional foe Boston Bruins, a 2-1 OT loss at TD Garden.

Toronto will need as much help as they can get as they try to slow down Macklin Celebrini, who is ecstatic about playing his first game in Toronto:

It's going to be cool. It's one of the oldest franchises & you see the history in the rafters & obviously a very good team that we're playing. I'm just excited.

Will Brad Treliving add another forward, or will Calle Jarnkrok be considered Toronto's Trade Deadline acquisition up front?
