According to Jacob Stoller of the Hockey News, the Toronto Maple Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, has re-signed former Stanley Cup champion Kyle Clifford to an AHL contract.

Clifford is set to return to the Marlies after spending the last three seasons within the organization.

This is the second time in his career that he has returned to the Maple Leafs organization.

Clifford was a part of the infamous trade that brought Jack Campbell to the Maple Leafs in 2020. After this, he signed with the St. Louis Blues and was later traded back to Toronto in November 2021.

Clifford, 33, has proven to be a valuable asset to a young Marlies team. He not only plays a huge part in the leadership of the team but will also do anything to protect his teammates.

The terms of the contract are still unknown at this time, but given his age, the assumption would be a one-year deal at a low number so he can finish his hockey career close to his hometown of Ayr, Ontario.

Last season with the Marlies, Clifford appeared in 56 games and scored 10 goals, 18 assists and collected 140 PIMS. He didn't play a game with the Maple Leafs, the last time he played in the NHL was in 202223, when he appeared in two games.
