Maple Leafs recall nine players from the Marlies ahead of game 6
On Wednesday night, The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled nine players from the Marlies including Dennis Hildeby, Kyle Clifford and Topi Niemela ahead of game 6.
The Leafs are currently preparing for yet another must-win game against the Boston Bruins and the organization announced a major roster move. A whopping total of nine players got called up from the Marlies to the Leafs.
The Marlies lost in the first round of the playoffs against the Belleville Senators, putting an end to their high aspirations to win the Calder Cup.
Dennis Hildeby, Kyle Clifford, Topi Niemela, Alex Steeves, Marshall Rifai, Maxime Lajoie, Mikko Kokkonen, Dylan Gambrell and Nick Abruzzese are now on the Maple Leafs' roster.
However, as David Alter mentionned, it's common to see AHL players with two-way contracts to be called up in the NHL when they're eliminated from the playoffs.
"This isn't anything. It's common for teams to call up their entire roster of NHL contracted players when the minor-league team is done."
While we should see Sheldon Keefe send out the same line up that won game 5 in Boston tonight on the ice, any of these players could be called to step in if there are injuries and the Leafs force a seventh game.
More to come.
