The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be sending Nick Robertson a message after he had some comments on being sent down to the minors due to the roster situation at the deadline.

Robertson Makes Comments Following Being Sent Down to Make Room for Deadline Aquisitions

Nick Robertson was one of the more promising prospects for the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially when he came onto the scene hot, scoring a goal in the Leafs playoff series loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2020. However, his early career hasn't panned out that way, primarily due to injuries the young forward has faced.

However, this season, Robertson has managed to remain healthy. This didn't stop the Leafs from sending him back down to the minors, though, due to his waiver exemption. Robertson wasn't happy about the move and revealed that to the media.

"I understand it, but I'm not going to sit here and say I'm happy. I want to play. I've been in plenty of situations here where the waivers have kind of screwed me. So, like I said, I'm numb to it."

Robertson Skating as Extra During Team's Last Few Practices

Many expected Robertson to find his way back into the lineup immediately after the deadline, however, it appears the Leafs are sending a different message. In the last few practices, Robertson has been skating as an extra, which could be the Leafs sending a message to the forward about his comments.

Robertson has a lot to prove during the stretch of the season. It's highly likely he will have more than one opportunity to prove his worth to the Leafs, and now is his time to capitalize on it.
