The Toronto Maple Leafs had a relatively quiet trade deadline this year. Considering how few assets Brad Treliving had to work with, that is not all that surprising. However, one of the players that they did add has already expressed his excitement in joining the team.

New Leafs Defenseman Edmundson Discusses What He Brings To The Team

Technically, Joel Edmundson was not a trade deadline day acquisition as the Leafs finalized his deal yesterday. He arrived in time to play in the team's game against the Bruins, but Sheldon Keefe had him sit it out as a transition period. However, this did not stop him from talking to the media about what the trade was like for him and what he thinks he can bring to the team.

Joel Edmundson on joining Leafs: "I know it's a 1st-class organization. I love the way the team's built."

on his role: "My job is to make the other forwards miserable. I like to play hard with a heavy stick in front of the net & in the corners & just play tough"

He also referenced the fact that the Leafs are still well within their contending window. This is a big upgrade for the defenseman as he's coming from a very mediocre Capitals team.

Joel Edmundson on Leafs: "It's an elite core. They've been together for several years now & every year they just keeping better & better ... I'm glad to be on this side now"

Toronto Maple Leafs Add Depth Pieces At Trade Deadline

While the Leafs did not have the resources to make a major move likely, they still geared up for the playoffs. First-year Leafs general manager Brad Treliving gave himself some injury insurance by adding multiple defenseman. Hopefully it will be enough to keep the team healthy for the remainder of the season.

The team also added some depth up front as Treliving acquired forward Connor Dewar from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a 4th round pick in the 2026 draft and prospect Dmitry Ovchinnikov.

Will these moves be enough to push the Leafs over the edge this year? Only time will tell.
