Philippe Myers Breaks Silence After Scoring Arguably the Leafs Goal of the Year

With the last game of the regular season, Philippe Myers decided to showcase some pretty unreal moves for a big man, and afterwards explained what went down.
While it certainly wasn't the prettiest game, the Maple Leafs still came away with a 4-3 OT comeback victory after Scott Laughton played the hero, right at the perfect time as the team heads into the first game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
On a night where the team paid tribute to retiring equipment manager Tom Blatchford, it was smiles and good feelings all around.
One of the players who played a big part in Toronto's comeback win was Philippe Myers. Filling in for the absent defenders on the blue line, Myers took matters into his own hands and scored what could potentially be the team's goal of the year.
Myers deked two defenders before patiently waiting for Detroit's Cam Talbot to open his five-hole briefly before depositing the puck between his legs for the beauty.
While it's something you can expect out of Mitch Marner or John Tavares, seeing it from the 6'5 Myers is something to behold. Touching on his highlight reel goal post-game, he was fairly humble but clearly still beaming from the tally:
It felt really good. I'll take it. I don't even know what happened there. A little shake 'n bake and that's it.
Myers was certainly cooking something up on Thursday night, and while it might not keep him in the loop once the injured players return, it's a great sign they'll keep him around as a depth player in the playoffs.
Craig Berube was stunned by the effort, and genuinely couldn't tell if it was Myers or prime Erik Karlsson on the ice:
That might have been the goal of the year. I wasn't sure who that was.
It certainly helped the Maple Leafs' confidence heading into Game One on Sunday against Ottawa, and gives Myers the boost needed to have a solid postseason if he gets to play; he's got that passion Craig Berube loves.
Myers has been used sparingly this season, but has skated in 36 games, scoring five points (2G, 3A) with 76 hits and 42 blocks in 16:14 TOI.
Don't expect the Maple Leafs defender to start pulling off these moves on a nightly basis, but if he's given the opportunity in the playoffs?
Maybe we'll see a little more shaking and baking from Myers.
