San Jose Sharks' top defenseman Mario Ferraro linked to the Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked to San Jose Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro, according to a report from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
According to Pagnotta, Ferraro has been a consistent target for Brad Treliving and the Leafs, with Toronto among many teams across the NHL with interest in his services.
First-Round Pick and Top Prospect on the Table for Mario Ferraro, Says Pagnotta
Although no deals appear firm at this stage, Pagnotta says a return for Mario Ferraro is a hefty one.
I would imagine a first-round draft pick is part of the ask, along with a top-ranked prospect and possibly another high asset.
The Leafs have the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entrt Draft. The Sharks currently have two first round picks (1,14). On top of this means as well one of Toronto's top prospects, such as Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten & Topi Niemela, and another piece on top of that.
Ferraro, 25, has a favorable, team-friendly contract, signed until 2026 at $3.25M a season. Ferraro had 3 goals and 21 points in 78 games for San Jose this season, leading the last place Sharks in defenseman PTS.
As well as Ferraro, Toronto is reported to have an interest in another Shark in forward Luke Kunin.
Kunin, 26, is an RFA on July 1st. According to Pagnotta, a trade is unlikely if Kunin is re-signed long-term. He also says the two sides have been talking.
