Despite a month passing, the NHL world is still in shock and mourning over the loss of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, who were tragically killed by a drunk driver on the eve of their sisters wedding. With the pre-season now starting up, we are seeing even more tributes across the league, adding to the touching way that the Flames, Blue Jackets and every team honoured Johnny Hockey after his passing.
However, some fans have now come under major scrutiny at ScotiaBank Arena, as the Toronto Maple Leafs paid tribute to brothers Matthew and Johnny ahead of their regular season tilt with the Ottawa Senators.
Following the beautiful tribute, the team honoured the brothers with a moment of silence, 13 seconds to be exact, but some fans took it upon themselves to be noisy during that time, and have been called out on social media.
Most, if not all of the criticism involved language that is inappropriate to share, but the sentiment was shared by many across social media, as it was all seen as major acts of disrespect during a time of sorrow for the league.
Hopefully those fans that didn't disrespect the moment took in the beautiful tribute from the team and used it as a reminder to not drink and drive and cherish the ones you love, and in the future, we hope those fans can learn to be silent during these moments.
These tributes will likely and should continue across the NHL as the regular season nears, so hopefully this doesn't happen again, as it's a very unnecessary way to interrupt during a time of sadness for many fans across the league.
