After suffering an apparent head injury, Danford was removed from the scrimmage as a precautionary measure and it looks like Danford was sent to be evaluated by doctors.
Danford suffered the hit after Marshall Finnie, a prospect from the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings laid him into the boards. TSN's Mark Masters was there and captured the injury and posted it on his X account:
The status of Danford for the Prospect Showcase against Montreal is in serious doubt, and it would be a bit egregious to rush Danford into a showcase knowing full well what he offers. Now, a new report has emerged thanks to Terry Koshan of The Toronto Sun.
Koshan posted on his X account that Danford was not seen taking the ice for the Maple Leafs prospect camp:
This was later confirmed by David Alter of The Hockey News and it looks like the Maple Leafs are trying to keep him safe before possibly slotting him into the two games versus Montreal coming up.
There has been an update regarding Ben Danford's status for the two Prospect Showcase games against the Montreal Canadiens, as David Alter of The Hockey News reports Danford is not scheduled to be playing in either of those games. Danford was projected to line-up with Noah Chadwick before the injury occurred.
It's unclear of his status as of this article, but it seems that Toronto is playing it safe with Danford; their 1st round pick of the 2024-2025 NHL Entry Draft.
