On Wednesday; Sweden, Canada, Finland, and the USA announced their 4 Nations Face-Off rosters, and Maple Leafs' star center John Tavares was shockingly left off of Team Canada.
Tavares was amongst several big names left off of the powerhouse team heading into this groundbreaking tournament.
The Four Nations Face-Off was announced earlier this year and will be the first tournament to feature NHL talent on all sides since 2016's World Cup of Hockey; the tournament will take place from February 12-20.
While John Tavares was left off of Canada's roster there are still plenty of Maple Leafs stars that will represent at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
The 4 Nations Tournament will fittingly feature four Toronto Maple Leafs with Auston Matthews representing the United States, Mitch Marner for Canada, William Nylander will play for Sweden, and the biggest shocker being Jani Hakanpaa representing Finland.
With the rosters now being released for this exciting tournament discussion has begun regarding the best players to be snubbed off of each team's roster.
Discussing the rosters, Sportsnet decided to bury John Tavares even more disrespecting him with the release of the Team Canada snubs.
In a new post on X, Sportsnet decided to put together a team of the players who they felt most deserved to make Team Canada who were not selected for the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament.
The list features star players such as Steven Stamkos, Evan Bouchard, and Mark Scheifele but it is missing a shocking player as John Tavares was not selected as one of their snubs.
Despite being on pace to have one of his best years since coming to the Toronto Maple Leafs, no love seems to be shared for the accomplishments of Tavares.
Instead, a player like Connor Bedard who has regressed so heavily that his head coach Luke Richardson was fired gets the nod instead on this all-snub team.
In addition, Steven Stamkos and the Nashville Predators have struggled mightily to the point where Stamkos even called out his own team for their loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
These types of players while immensely talented have not lived up to expectations for this season and have not helped their team toward the ultimate goal of winning a Stanley Cup and neither man has even outpaced Tavares statistically either.
Therefore the argument for having either of these players let along some of the other names on this list on the team over Tavares is a controversial choice to say the least.
While Tavares is playing in more of a third-line role than in the past, the results speak for themselves he is an elite producer on one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
With the 4 Nations Face-Off just a couple of months away we won't have to wait long to see if Team Canada made a mistake leaving Tavares at home or if they saw something no one else did.
