If the Toronto Maple Leafs wanted to add a quietly reliable and cheap forward at the deadline, they could find a perfect candidate currently with Vancouver.

As the days tick away for Brad Treliving and the Maple Leafs to make a deal before the NHL Trade Deadline on Friday at 3PM, he's gotta narrow down what piece he needs most and go do what he can to acquire it.

He's already lost out on some important names, and can't afford to sit on his hands.

So with his options being limited quicker and quicker, there could be a silver lining in the madness. Toronto could look to Vancouver, and while they would do so for Carson Soucy, they should also take a look at another name: Pius Suter.

A relative dark horse candidate to be traded, news is that Suter and the Canucks are far away on an extension, and if they can't come to an agreement, he may be on the way out.

Which means Toronto needs to take full advantage given that not many teams are looking in his direction.

Pius Suter Great Fit For Toronto Maple Leafs

Suter, 28, is not your typical Craig Berube or Brad Treliving player as he's only 5'11 and about 180 pounds, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in offensive production and very solid positioning and hockey IQ.

Already hitting a career-high in goals with 16, Suter has been a quietly consistent contributor the past few seasons averaging 14.6 goals and 14.2 assists through his first five years.

He gets shots on net, wins face-offs, plays hard defense and would find some success playing with Nick Robertson and Max Domi as a high-energy, checking line (now that Robertson has adjusted his style of play).

The Swiss winger was signed by the Red Wings in 2021 before finding his way to Vancouver in 2023. Suter was originally signed by the Chicago Blackhawks after a very successful stint in the Swiss League.

He only makes $1.6M which is a considerably smaller amount than some other players on the market and won't cost nearly as much in terms of assets. It's worth taking a look at him.

The Maple Leafs have only a few days left to make something happen, and potentially Suter's time with Vancouver is also running out.
