According to him, it could take some time before the Leafs and the defenseman reach a deal as Toronto might wait to see how free agency unfolds.
Here's what he wrote:
"It could take some time this offseason for Liljegren's future to play out.
It sounds like there hasn't been much dialogue between the Leafs and Liljegren's camp over his next contract. The Leafs are likely waiting to see how free agency unfolds. Once they know what kind of pieces they can add, they'll be able to decide where Liljegren fits in their lineup."
The Leafs' blue line had its fair share of struggles in the playoffs, and Brad Treliving seems poised to make some changes in that area this summer.
With many interesting players available on the market, and the Leafs' multiple trade assets such as Mitch Marner, Morgan Rielly, or John Tavares, we could see Treliving's first home-run as Toronto's GM in the coming weeks.
