The Toronto Maple Leafs' management has already declared that their quest for a new head coach officially started. Less than a week after they decided to fire Sheldon Keefe, it looks like they're getting ready to start the interview process.
According to a new post on social media, Todd McLellan was seen at the LA airport going to Toronto:
It could be for other reasons, but going to Toronto now, when the Leafs are in the middle of their hiring process, is a significant development.
He was already identified as a potential contender to become head coach of the Leafs. The fact that he could be interviewed for the job could be a big proof that management is interested in hearing his ideas.
McLellan was fired by the Los Angeles Kings earlier this season, when the Kings were going through a rough patch after a great start of the season.
In five years with the Kings, he led them to the playoffs twice. Before that, he worked for the Oilers and the Sharks. He never won a Stanley Cup, but did win a Championship in the AHL, back in 2003 with the Houston Aeros.
Updates and details about the Leafs' quest for a new head coach and Todd McLellan's trip to Toronto should come soon. Stay tuned.
