It is now official that Chris Tanev will be active for the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight against Detroit according to David Alter of The Hockey News.
Tanev had been taking warmups for Toronto in the pre-game, and is now confirmed to be in the lineup for the team in their first game back from the Christmas break.
Tanev is expected to be on the second pair on the right side alongside his regular defensive partner Jake McCabe. He replaces Philippe Myers in the lineup, who replaced Tanev in the game against Winnipeg.
Tanev missed Toronto's last game against Winnipeg with what the team reported as a lower-body injury. It appears his injury wasn't anything serious that keeps him out long-term.
This season, Tanev has a goal and 10 points in 34 games played.
Tanev spoke recently on his view playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, speaking on the positivity that comes in playing for the team and being around his teammates.
So he must be in good spirits then that even though he missed the last game, the locker room is going to welcome him back with open arms.
Philippe Myers this season has a point in eight games playedfor Toronto, used primarily as a healthy scratch and only in emergency situations.
Heading into tonight's game against Detroit, The Toronto Maple Leafs sit second in the Atlantic Division with 44 points, two points back of the Florida Panthers for first. The Leafs have a 21-12-2 record and need to make a statement as they head into the final week of a very tough December.
