The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to make an addition down the middle, and now Frank Seravalli has linked them to a potentially returning Jonathan Toews.

While no official announcement had been many, many believed that former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews was all but retired after almost two full years away from the NHL. However, over the past few days he made some comments that raised many eyebrows, suggesting that his days in the NHL aren't quite over, and it's got speculation around the league heating up.

Now, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has addressed the situation, notably bringing up the Toronto Maple Leafs as a potential landing spot for the now 36-year old forward.

There's no shortage of teams whose interest was peaked over the holidays when Toews detailed his five-week healing journey in India, as he's been suffering from chronic inflammatory response disorder.

And so he's feeling the best that he has in years and hinted in that story that he might want to resume his NHL career.

I'm told multiple teams expressed interest in Toews potential return to his agent Pat Brisson from CAA Sports.

They're not actually sure yet as to whether or not Toews might try to resume playing this year or if this is something that will wait until next year.

I'm going to give you three teams to keep an eye on if Toews is to make a comeback bid. One of them is the Toronto Maple Leafs as a third line centre has been on Brad Treliving's wish list all season long.

Seravalli would go on to name the Winnipeg Jets and the Colorado Avalanche, with both having connections to the former star forward and needing depth up front that he could provide, but in Toronto, Toews may find the perfect home.

Currently, Toronto are relying on Max Domi as their 3C, but with some expected reshuffling to take place when Auston Matthews returns, they may rather have someone like Toews in that role to give the team veteran leadership and Stanley Cup pedigree.

In his final campaign with Chicago two seasons ago, Toews would put up a solid 15 goals and 31 points in 53 games played, so while he's not the player that once led the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cups in a five-year period, he can help at the NHL level still.

Ultimately, this would be a very solid move for Toronto if Toews would take a veteran minimum to compete for another Stanley Cup on a one-year deal, but with his future still a mystery, it's not something we'll have an answer on anytime soon.
