The Toronto Maple Leafs look to ride the momentum of finally winning their first preseason game and get to do so against Montreal Saturday night. After a few days with injury scares to Auston Matthews, William Nylander and John Tavares, Toronto looks to get their final chops in before the regular season opens up but they'll definitely have a different group on the ice come game time.
The team officially released the roster that they are putting out tonight and it's definitely the opposite of what we saw last game:
The main focus will be on Easton Cowan who after three preseason games is still fighting for a shot on the main squad; he will have the spotlight on him all night and it will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure. Nicholas Robertson gets another crack at playing after causing William Nylander's injury in the first game against Montreal and will look to redeem himself and perhaps not pull any silly moves causing more injuries to the Maple Leafs.
PTO signee Steven Lorentz gets to play as he finishes up recovering from an injury earlier in training camp and he would be a huge boost to the Maple Leafs bottom-six and give them a dangerous faceoff monster. Nikita Grebenkin will also get a chance to build off his first game against Ottawa, and the Maple Leafs will hope that he can be as fired up and motivated as he was when he fought Adam Gaudette:
The rest of the squad for the most part will be made up for AHLers as they try to gain a bit more experience versus professional squads before they eventually head back to the minors; if players like Denis Hildeby and Marshall Rifai have solid games, they could find themselves at the top of the list for callups.
Toronto has yet to release lines but we will update you with them as they are known.
