Due to cap constraints, the Toronto Maple Leafs will be forced to make a trade involving former Minnesota Wild forward Connor Dewar soon.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have arguably one of the biggest players in free agency and summer trade season. They started their deals with a big play that earned them the rights to Chris Tanev from the Dallas Stars, later pulling out a 6-year contract with the veteran defenseman.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs announce they've signed Chris Tanev for six years at a $4.5M AAV!"

However, after acquiring more solid players, they have also accrued higher costs. The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently $1.5 million over their salary cap, leaving RFA and former Minnesota Wild forward Connor Dewar unsigned. GM Brad Treliving will have to look at releasing a player to open up his spot, with many pointing to Calle Jarnkrok, David Kampf, and Ryan Reaves.
"#LeafsForever are currently $1.5m over the salary cap while still needing to re-sign RFA Connor Dewar.

GM Brad Treliving could consider trading players like Calle Jarnkrok, David Kampf, or Ryan Reaves in order to free up cap space to keep Dewar."

Each of the three projected possible trades makes seven figures with the team, in addition to being unrestricted free agents. So long as one of these players can move somewhere else, there should be no issue re-signing Connor Dewar.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made it clear they are doing all they can to take home a Stanley Cup in the near future. Hopefully, they can fix their current cap issues so their efforts will not be in vain.
