With the trade deadline approaching, the speculation on how the Toronto Maple Leafs should go about upgrading their roster is starting to heat up. Many agree that the focus of this year's deadline should be on the blue line, however, how that upgrade is achieved is up for debate.
Now, insider Kevin Papetti has suggested that the Leafs consider moving defenseman Simon Benoit in order to upgrade to a top 4 RD.
This has taken a lot of fans off guard, since Benoit is playing well above his pay grade over the last 7 game stretch, and has found a great role with the Leafs. However, what Papetti is saying is that value could be traded in for something the Leafs have been in search of for some time in a top 4 right-handed defenseman.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in an interesting spot when it comes to their roster, as they have some players returning from injury, which will undoubtedly shake up the roster. Joseph Woll was recalled today, and Calle Jarnkrok is well on his way to making a return. With that, the Leafs will have to make some moves, either sending someone down or making a trade. With their need for a defenseman, hopefully, the move will be the latter.
We will see what the Leafs decide to do in the coming days ahead of the deadline.
