Despite a disappointing end to the season, Bertuzzi has openly stated that he is willing to re-sign with the team. After the Leafs were eliminated in game seven of the first round, he said that he and his family loved their time in Toronto and would open to extending it.
That being said, the Leafs have a lot of decisions to make this off season. In addition to Bertuzzi, the Leafs also have Max Domi to consider as he also signed a one-year deal last summer. Jay Rosehill believes that Domi should be the top priority.
According to Evolving Hockey, Bertuzzi is expected to make anywhere between 3.1 million and 6.5 million dollars against the cap on his next contract depending on the length of the deal. Another one-year deal would be the cheapest while an eight-year extension would theoretically carry a cap hit in the 6.5 million dollar range. Evolving Hockey breaks it down like this:
1 Year: $3.15M
2 Years: $4.03M
3 Years: $4.93M
5 Years: $5.95M
6 Years: $5.98M
7 Years: $5.8M
8 Years: $6.5M
All of that being said, many fans think the team should be focused on bringing back both players. After all, they both showed improvements in the second half of the season and into the playoffs.
Be sure to tune in to see how the offseason shakes out for the Maple Leafs as they decide whether or not to re-sign Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi.
