If things weren't hot enough between the North American powerhouses, this year's World Junior Championships was sure to bring things to a boiling point. Filled with young and hungry star prospects determined to make a name for themselves, it can go from zero to 100 in a flash.
The rivalry wasn't lost on Cole Eiserman, a star winger for the Americans and one of the New York Islanders' best prospects. After scoring a goal during Team USA's victory over Canada, the brash forward took time to taunt Canadian star Easton Cowan.
Cole Eiserman Called Out The Cowboy
It might not be the best course of action to provoke the OHL's unofficial point streak record holder and arguably one of the best scorers over the past three seasons. Since coming to London, Cowan has 177 points in 142 games including a blistering 96-point season in 2023.
The Toronto Maple Leafs' top prospect is no stranger to being a bit aggressive either, as he was seen getting into a scrap earlier this season so Eiserman may want to stay away once the two meet again.
New York's 20th overall pick in this past year's draft, the former USHL product shined in his time with US National Development team scoring 78 points in 56 games before heading to Boston University this season and putting up 15 points in 16 games.
Although Eiserman came out victorious with the rest of the Americans, Cowan and company are dealing with some serious injuries including one to Matthew Schaefer; leaving the team down one of their key defensemen. The team is also without some pretty prominent names as Dave Cameron compiled his squad.
Team USA and Eiserman will take their momentum into their next game against Switzerland on Thursday afternoon, meanwhile Team Canada will face off against Czechia in the battle of Leafs prospects with Cowan taking on Miroslav Holinka.
