Safe to say that Martin Necas has played his final game as a Carolina Hurricane in their game six defeat to the New York Rangers in the second round. The pending RFA has requested a trade in hopes of fulfilling a bigger role elsewhere.
The Vancouver Canucks have been linked to Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas for a bit now and it looks like the Canucks are amongst the many suitors in line for the Czech forward with the likes of the Montreal Canadiens, Seattle Kraken and Philadelphia Flyers. Here is a breakdown of how a trade can occur between the Canucks and Hurricanes according to insider Elliotte Friedman.
Important to note that Elias Pettersson was really close to becoming a Carolina Hurricane before signing his extension with the Vancouver Canucks. Rumors were flying around during the NHL trade deadline, until Pettersson decided to lock up long term in Vancouver.
The pieces the Hurricanes will be looking for in a Martin Necas deal will be top prospects such as Tom Willander and Jonathan Lekkermaki. It is unlikely that GM Pat Alvin will be willing to part with his swedish projects.
A potential trade package might include Filip Hronek and a draft pick (1st or 2nd round), with the Canucks receiving Necas and possibly a lower-round draft pick (3rd or 4th round) in return. This trade would address the Vancouver Canucks' need for offensive depth and support for star center Elias Pettersson, while the Hurricanes would bolster their blue line with Hronek
