Alex Ovechkin Finally Reveals How he Truly Feels About Trading Evgeny Kuznetsov
Rumours regarding Evgeny Kuznetsov being traded from the Washington Capitals have been circling for months. While the last few weeks may have been quiet, this is no longer the case.
Ovechkin's Thoughts
Ovechkin opened up to a Russian media outlet on Friday, giving his thoughts on the rumours about his teammate and friend.
«I hope that this will not happen, because he is my close friend, a wonderful person, a great teammate. Therefore, I would not want this, but it does not depend on me.»
Ovechkin and Kuznetsov are long-time teammates and friends and have been close since Kuznetsov moved to Washington near the end of the 2013 season.
Kuznetsov's Slowing Success
Kuznetsov is coming off a relatively down year, recording just 55 points, 23 fewer than in 2021-22. His production with Ovechkin has dropped, and when the two share the ice they were outscored 23 to 21.
Kuznetsov was previously tied to rumours of a trade between Washington and Nashville, which would have seen him play with former coach Barry Trotz. While this didn't come to fruition, Caps GM has indicated that he is still open to a change in his top 6.
