Alex Ovechkin Reveals the Heartfelt Promise He Made to His Late Brother
If you didn't know, Alex Ovechkin lost his brother when he was only ten years old.
The best Russian player in the world made him a promise just before he died.

Sergei Ovechkin, Alex's older brother, was 24 when he died after a car accident. Alex was only ten when it happened, and he promised him he'd play in the NHL in his honor.

Alex didn't stop there. He dedicated his career to his late brother. He even named his first born son after him.
"When Ovechkin had his day with the Stanley Cup, he and his family took it to the grave of his late brother. Ovi placed the cup next to it and told him, «We did it brother».
Ovi is often seen kissing his glove and pointing to the sky after scoring a goal, which is also in honor of Sergei.
