The Winnipeg Jets have made a shocking decision today regarding their former captain and current core player Blake Wheeler.
Darren Dreger has just reported that the Winnipeg Jets will be buying out the contract of Blake Wheeler.
Wheeler had one more season on his contract, which carried an $8.25 million cap hit.
The buyout will save the Jets $5.5 million this year and cost them $2.75 million the next. This is certainly an interesting move.
Wheeler will no doubt have interest on the free agent market, as he brings a veteran presence with a captain pedigree. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
