While the Stanley Cup playoffs continue on, the World Championship of Hockey remains a highlight for European fans and fans of teams who have already been eliminated. Many NHL players are currently representing their home countries at the tournament, including Leafs center David Kampf. Unfortunately though, he did not play today as Czechia took on Great Britain.
Luckily for Czechia, Kampf's services were not required to win the game as the Czech players handily defeated Great Britain by a final score of 4-1. This now means that Great Britain is in danger of being relegated as they have no points to this point through the tournament.
Luckily, according to David Alter, Kampf's injury does not appear to be serious. It seems that the team sat him more for precautionary reasons than anything else. Given their matchup against the fringe top-division team, it makes sense that they would make this move. Perhaps if they had been playing a tougher opponent, Kampf would have been in the lineup.
Kampf has 4 assists through 5 games at the tournament for Czechia. He had 8 goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 78 games for the Leafs this season. The 29-year-old has three years remaining on his contract with the team.
