33-year-old hockey player unexpectedly passes away

Former NCAA hockey player Chad Demers is no longer with us, as he lost his courageous six-year battle with cancer at the young age of 33. In 2018, Chad Demers was diagnosed with cancer. With the many challenges presented by his diagnosis, he remained active in the sport he loved. To continue in the community of hockey within which he worked, strength was given to him, and he faced the biggest battle of his life with the grace and perseverance of a true champion.
Most recently, he was the assistant coach at Augustana University; he started this position during the summer of 2023. His love for hockey never diminished, even up to his last year, as he was dedicated to helping mold the next generation of future talent. His memory and contributions to the team will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Chad Demers was, in fact, a very valued player, coach, and most importantly, part of this hockey community. We want to extend our thoughts and deepest sympathies to his wife, children, family, and friends during this extremely difficult time.
