Bergeron is one of if not the best two-way forwards in the game, the Bruins captain sat down with NHL.com for a interview and had this to say oh his future,
"Throughout my career, I've always had renewed contracts and long deals, so right now I want to play this season and see how I feel and where I'm at. I have several questions that I will have to answer", said the Quebecer, whose remarks were translated by the French site of the Bettman circuit.
Last September, Bergeron revealed that he had no plans to negotiate a new deal with the Bruins. The 36-year-old went on to say,
"As you get older, you realize that the window is closing more and more, and you start asking yourself these questions and thinking about possible contingencies, the future and everything. But honestly, I'm not thinking about it right now."
"It's the first time in my career where I don't have a contract extension in my pocket, which allows me to take the time to find the answers to my questions, whether they affect me directly, whether they affect the team or whatever. I think some people overthink it. Right now, I don't have those answers, and it doesn't mean anything in particular. It shouldn't be interpreted one way or another. "
Patrice Bergeron wants to wait to see how this season goes, but if he does test the free agent market, many teams will be throwing him offers. Bergeron went on to say,
"That's why I don't have the answer right now, he said, when asked directly about a possible retirement. I feel good and I'm happy with the way our team is playing at the moment. Yes, it's a possibility, but that's not all that matters, and that's certainly not why I haven't signed a contract extension."
«I think I have to focus on the present, he insisted on repeating. At this point in my career, that's all that matters. I don't have to think about a contract extension or the future. I have to enjoy the moment."
Patrice Bergeron was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round of the 2003 NHL draft 45th overall. Bergeron has 387 goals and 563 assists, for a total of 950 points in 1183 games all with the Boston Bruins. Bergeron has also represented Canada numerous times throughout his career.
