Canadiens defenceman Shea Weber has been punished by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for a slash on Tampa Bay forward Nikita Kucherov in game one of the Stanley Cup Final. Weber hit Kucherov in the back of the knee with a slash right in front of the referee. There was no call on the play. Weber has been fined $5000.
The first game of the final brought more rough stuff than we've seen in most games involving the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs so far. It's likely it will increase even further as the series goes along.
