The Toronto Maple Leafs still have the coach on their side, despite another heartbreaking first-round playoff defeat.

«I would give them one more year because with that firepower, you can't throw that team away.»

«Before Game 7 and a neighbour asked me what I thought, and I told him I always worry when the other team has a goalie like that,» said Grapes. «It was Andrei Vasilevskiy who won it. You can't knock Jack Campbell. He played great.»

Cherry understands the GTA's hurt.

«I am hurting, too,» he said. «I have the maple leaf on my truck.»

Grapes also commented on the referees in the playoffs.

«I don't like it. Neither do the players. The players want to play I feel sorry for the referees. They know they shouldn't call those chintzy penalties but if they don't call them, they don't get keep their job.»

Grapes on almost 39-year-old Jason Spezza being a team leader on and off the ice?

«I don't know whether that would be good with the coach or not. He's sort of taking over. I think someday he will be a coach somewhere. He's got too much to offer; good with the press, knows his way around, knows hockey, and he played great.»
